REIKI pronounced "RAY-key" means Universal Life Force Energy. Reiki is a 2,500 year old technique with Christian and Buddhist origins. It is best described as a healing technique which can empower the body to facilitate physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health via the human energy system. It is a gentle, safe, and non-invasive hands on or hands hovering above the body (4-6 inches) healing approach.
* Reiki enhances the body's natural ability to heal itself by relieving "stuck" energy within the realm of the human energy system. If this "stuck" energy is left untreated it can contribute to stress, illness, and disease. Reiki energy adjusts itself to the body's specific needs.
* Reiki is not a substitute for ongoing medical care for any specific illness you may have. However, it can work in conjunction with traditional medical treatments and traditional psychotherapy to treat disease or disorder.
Psychotherapeutic Reiki offers a combination of energy work and psychotherapy. This allows for emotional and mental blocks to be released from the body and processed through a psychologically based conversation. It combines both Eastern and Western body-mind practices to allow for direct access and subsequent healing that can occur through mindful release, cognitive restructuring, and behavioral change.
What to Expect in a Session:
During a Reiki session, you will remain fully clothed and usually lie on a massage table throughout the session. Sessions consist of the gentle placement of hands in a variety of patterns on the body, always in a safe manner. You will generally experience Reiki as intense warmth from my hands, whether with hands on or hands hovering. You may feel tingling as the "stuck" energy moves through your body. Your body, always in control of the session, directs the energy flow.
